Snow Surprised!
2010-01-04 (Monday) 10:34 CST
Santa delivered a lot of surprises for Cameron and Porter this Christmas, but I
think the 8+ inches of snow we received on Christmas Day was the most
impressive. We have spent very brief times outside in the white stuff,
preferring intead to cozy up to a warm fire and hot chocolate. The cold
temperatures and snow postponed travel plans, even across the city to Grandma
and Grandpa L's home, as well as Columbia. We took advantage of the quality
time with just the four of us sharing in this special time of year. Over
winter break the boys and I spent four days in Columbia after the highways felt
safe enough for travel. We spent New Years Eve celebrating Christmas finally
with Matt's parents here in town. New Years Day, Matt and I celebrated our 9th
wedding anniversary, going out for dinner and a movie. Our actual date is
January 6th, but we took advatage of the weekend and free babysitting from the
grandparents.
Christmas preparations
2010-01-03 (Sunday) 22:30 CST
With the holiday busyness, I have neglected to update the website for a few
weeks. I wanted to give the highlights of our Pre-Christmas activities some
are new and others have become a tradition with our family. First off, we
always visit Santa. Last year, my parents took the boys to Bass Pro in
Columbia, and I loved the idea of not paying for the pictures, plus being able
to take my own, that we went back again over Thanksgiving break. Cameron said
he asked for a batmobile and Porter asked for a train.
I spent a lot of time in the kitchen making cookies and candies for the
holiday. The boys helped out a bunch. They helped make homemade cocoa and
pretzal candies for their teachers. We also, made Christmas cookies with
Chelsea and Ethan. We baked a birthday cake for Jesus with our friend, Mason.
Finally on Christmas Eve the boys decorated gingerbread men to leave out for
Santa.
My holiday party at Crown Center Hyatt ballroom. Cameron could not get enough
of the magic show. Porter made a beaded wreath and we all sat for another
caricature.
Cameron and Porter performed in their first Christmas pageant at our new
church. Porter's 3 year old class sang a couple of sweet songs prior to the
pageant. Cameron was so excited to dress up as a shephard, but disappointed he
didn't get a speaking role. Maybe next year, Cameron. Both sets of
grandparents and Aunt Emily and Jeremy were able to come to the pageant. A few
days later, Porter performed at his preschool. He did outstanding. He sang
loud and did all the hand motions to each song.
The Union Station model train display at Union Station is always a must see at
Christmas time. Cameron and Porter are still very interested in trains. This
year they found a really cool underground goldmine in one display that really
kept their interest. We went to the display a couple of times this year with
friends and always enjoy eating lunch there and walking across the indoor
bridge to Crown Center.
