First Snow of 2006
2006-12-21 (Thursday) 15:44 CST

Although it was a really cold day, Cameron seemed nice and warm inside. So warm that he stripped off to look out at the first snowfall of the winter. Cameron could not wait to play in the snow. When dad got home that evening he bundled Cam up and they went on a walk through the snow and came upon some sledders. They were nice enough to let Cam take his first attempt at sledding, with Dad's help of course. The next day I took the boys outside while the sun was out and we shoveled the driveway. We attempted to make a snowman, but the snow was too dry. We look forward to the next snowfall and we can try again at building Frosty.

Santa Claus 2006
2006-12-12 (Tuesday) 19:42 CST

Cameron and Porter had a chance to see Santa Claus and let him know what they wanted him to bring them for Christmas. Our friend, Jenni Palmer, was taking pictures with Santa at a local bank. Porter happily sat on Santa's lap and was in awe of his long, white, curly beard and soft red suit. Cameron on the other hand, would not come close to sitting on Santa's lap. I finally got Cam to give Santa a package and Cam quickly told Santa that he wanted him to bring him "Baby Jesus". It is so innocent how his little two-year-old mind tries to combine the religious and secular aspects of Christmas. I purchased a toy Playmobil Nativity set for Cam so he can play with baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, etc. I think he still wants the real baby Jesus. But I tell him that he already has baby Jesus in his heart.

Developmental Updates

Porter turned 6 months on Thanksgiving Day, 11/23/06. He is currently 16lb. 14oz., and 26 and a half inches in length. According to his physician he is average for both height and weight. Porter is now sitting on his own for long periods of time. He attempts to creep around by rolling or doing a slow army crawl. He has become very interested in toys and cries when one is taken from him. His grasp is very strong and he can pick up small toys and munipulate them in his hands. He loves clasping his hands together and pumping them up and down with excitement. Porter is a very happy baby and enjoys being tickled under his chin and tossed in the air. He is becoming more vocal and has verbal exchanges with his big brother. Porter is now eating pureed vegetables, fruits, and meats. He seems to feel pretty big now that he can sit up in his highchair. We can't believe that six months has gone by so fast since this little bundle of joy entered our lives.

Cameron is almost 2 and a half years old. He is 30 pounds and 36 and a half inches in height. Cameron continues to grow in height, though his weight doesn't seem to change much. We think he has grown into such a handsome young boy. Cameron's vocabulary is amazing and each day he surprises us with a new phrase or a new observation. In the car he talks non-stop about everything he sees out the window from railroad tracks to what is pictured on billboards. His counting skills are great and we are working on identifying the alphabet. Cameron's favorite toys are his trains and cars. He spends much of the day lining up his cars and trains in a long line. Cam enjoys looking at books and singing songs too. He is very interested in what his dad is doing and often he gets his tools out to help dad fix things. He is fascinated to learn how objects work and to do them himself, "I do it", he says. One question that is heard a zillion times a day is, "why not?". It is adorable at first, but by the end of each day, well, it is not so adorable. But, he always knows the right thing to say to melt my heart, and that is, "I love you too".

We are so Thankful
2006-12-02 (Saturday) 20:18 CST

We spent a relaxing Thanksgiving holiday at Grandma and Grandpa's house in Columbia. We were blessed to have Great Grandpa and Great Grandma drive from Bolivar to enjoy the feast as well. Grandpa's cousin, Joycelyn, and her husband, Larry, (pictured in the group photo with Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt Emily, myself, and Cameron) also came to see us while we were in Columbia. Cameron and Porter took advantage of all the extra attention they received and Mom and Dad took advantage of all the extra help. Grandma and I got lots of shopping done while Cameron played his first round of golf on a par 3 course with dad. Grandpa also spent quality time with Cameron showing him his electric trains and having a picnic in the park.

Mom and Dad's trip to Manhattan
2006-12-01 (Friday) 16:35 CST

Matt and I took a short trip to Manhattan, NY in November. It was our first time away from Cameron and Porter for a whole weekend. We enjoyed the time we spent with one another reconnecting and sleeping in each morning. We stayed at a nice hotel called the Soho Grand. The hotel was down the street from China Town and Little Italy. We had fun walking up and down the streets looking at all the street vendors.
The highlights of our trip were walking through Central Park, getting a breathtaking view of the city at the Empire State Building, iceskating at Bryant Park, dancing to DJ Aphrodite at Crash Mansion, viewing Ground Zero, and taking the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty and the coastline. We loved getting the chance to visit this awesome city. We would like to bring the boys here when they are older. My parents stayed with them at our house and they had a wonderful visit with Grandma and Grandpa. We were very eager to see them by the end of our trip.
