Porter is 1
2007-05-26 (Saturday) 22:06 CDT

Our Little PJ turned one year old on May 23rd. We are so impressed with his development the last few weeks. Porter weighs 20 lbs 7 oz. (20th percentile) and he's 29-1/2 inches tall (40th percentile).

Porter is standing from the floor and walking several steps before he falls to the ground and gets up to try it again. He loves to imitate others; if you shake your head, he'll shake his in return. He plays peek-a-boo and imitates his big brother while playing with cars, trains, and planes. He is very verbal. He constantly makes noises and tries hard to communicate what he wants. We have heard him say "hello" when he picks up a phone, and he claps and waves so enthusiastically.

Porter had a great time at his birthday party. He ate bar-b-que beef and chicken, baked beans, and watermelon. Porter's cake was made in the shape of a horseshoe and he had his own personal cake with a bandana of iceing around it. He did not eat much cake -- he had more fun playing with the icing and jabbing the cake with a fork. Hopefully he did not inherit my sweet tooth.

We cannot believe that a year has gone by. Porter is such a joy to our family. He is always so happy and cuddly. Here he is with all four grandparents.

Kansas City Zoo

I recently took the boys along with their good friends, Avi and Mason, to the Kansas City Zoo. It was such a beautiful day for the zoo. The kids had a blast riding the train, having a picnic, watching the sea lion show, and just running around.

Go Mom! Go Porter! Go Cameron!

Porter and I raced in the Turkey Creek Festival 5K on Saturday. We took 3rd place in my age group at 23:08 (I was the only runner that pushed a stroller). Cameron ran his first sprint. He was so excited and put in so much effort. He made me very proud.

"Exploring St. Louis"
2007-05-23 (Wednesday) 8:32 CDT

In April we attempted our first family vacation with our two small boys and succeeded in having a blast and making so many memories. As a child, my parents always took us to St. Louis to visit Grant's Farm, the zoo, and catch a Cardinals game. So, the four of us planned the trip with some traditional sites, The Arch, Grant's Farm, and The St. Louis Zoo, as well as some new sites, The City Museum, and The Science Center. Cameron had a ball, it was so fun watching his little mind ingest all the experiences. Fortunately, Porter was such a trooper with all the running around. Thinking about family vacations as a child always gives me a warm-fuzzy feeling, even though I am sure I argued with my sisters for most of the trip. We are so lucky that we can start making our own family memories, and it should be a few more years before they complain the whole time, but it will still be worth it.

Here are some more pictures from our trip.
