Summer's End
2008-09-14 (Sunday) 11:20 CDT
School, schedules, and stability replace our summertime, slackness, and serenity.
It has not been the hottest summer, but we had plenty of fun in the sun at the
pool, summer camp, playing in the park, and cool refreshments. We were
fortunate to see much of our extended family and have a late summer vacation to
Estes Park, CO (pictures coming soon). We have definitely slacked on bedtime
routines and now it is time to get to bed earlier to get
Cameron off to pre-kindergarten. Cam will attend school on Tuesdays and
Thursdays all day. This year he will bring his lunch to school and eat with
his peers. Cameron is in a new classroom and has new teachers. One goal for
the school year will be to learn to recognize his name, recognize the letters
in the alphabet, and eventually read the names of his classmates. I am
confident that Cameron will have another successful preschool year.
Porter and I will enjoy having a little more one-on-one time on the days Cam is
in school. I plan to spend the time alone with Porter at library
story-time, visits to the zoo, and the local children's museum.
Porter has matured so much over the summer. Porter can now carry on a
conversation, memorize lines in favorite storybooks, and is beginning to
identify his colors and shapes. Cam and Porter interact together in play
and tell jokes to one another to make each other laugh. Cameron will
begin a new gymnastics program. Over the summer he has taught himself how
to do a cartwheel and he looks forward to learning new skills. As a
threesome, we signed up for another year of MOPS. This is a time that the three of us
spend quality time learning
valuable lessons from the bible while connecting with our peers. I welcome the
fall as the weather cools and beautiful changes take place in the landscape.
The apparel changes are welcomed too; our swimsuits, shorts, and caps will be
replaced by jeans, sweaters, and sockhats.
Cousin's Reunion 2008
2008-09-14 (Sunday) 10:11 CDT
In August, Emily, Jacob, Erica, and Alison visited from Pennsylvania. Cameron,
Porter, and I met them at the zoo hoping to have a fun-filled day with family,
but unfortunately it rained all morning and Cameron started feeling ill. As you
can see from the above photos, Cam wasn't his usual lively self, so we cut our
first visit short. It was fun catching up and seeing how much each of the
cousins had grown in a year. Fortunately Cameron
felt better that evening, so there were plenty of visits through the weekend to
let the kids play together, at grandpa and grandma's house, our house, and the
local pool. The cousins love to visit each other,
and Alison and Porter connected very quickly. We look forward to our next
visit together.
