St. Louis 2009

Two years ago, we took a family trip to St. Louis and realized there was so much for young families to expore that we had to make a point to return while the kids are young. Since Porter is now 3, it also made this trip more enjoyable, since he can now participate in all the activities. The lodging was great, we stayed at Drury Inn and Suites in Forest Park, which had an indoor pool and hottub, free breakfast, and free happy hour. Matt and I had to get back to the hotel by 5:30 each night to partake in the free drinks. Also, I was very impressed with their workout room which housed all "TRUE" treadmills and exercise equipment. I, of course, was impressed by this and was able to workout for my training schedule. We all went up in the Gateway Arch and walked around the riverfront when we first arrived in the city.

Our first evening we explored The City Museum, which was amazing. I think Matt had as much fun as the boys. There was a point while exploring the tunnels that Porter and I became a little frightened by the height, which did not phase Matt and Cameron. We stayed out until way past the boys's bedtime, but they had quite an adventure.

Our next stop was the The Magic House. Below are some of the photos I captured of this huge children's museum. There was so much to see and do at this house, that it was difficult to fit it all in on one day.

It was a warm weekend, so the The Saint Louis Zoo was a little more than we all could handle this day. I think you may enjoy the weblink for more animal pictures. We did like the cool penguin exhibit, which was a nice break from the heat. We made sure and rode the train, had lunch, and then were ready to go. The boys wanted to pick out a stuffed animal from the gift shop, so they picked out a stuffed spider and penquin and we went back to the hotel for a long nap. By the evening, we were ready to go out for the Cardinals vs. Reds game that evening. It was a nice night for a game and we even stayed through the last inning. Here is a recap article if interested.

Our last adventure in St. Louis was to see Bigfoot the Monster Truck. Most people may not have a clue that St. Louis is Bigfoot's home, but Matt discovered this fact and thought the kids would get a thrill to see a real monster truck. They were quite amazed. The store was really cool to visit and had some activities for kids. Porter managed to get a bunch of grease on his hands so I had to take him back to the garage to get washed up. He got to meet a Bigfoot driver but he was a little shy.

St. Louis is a fun destination for a mini-vacation with the boys, so I am sure we will go back soon.
