Porter is 3!!!
2009-05-28 (Thursday) 0:11 CDT
Porter turned on May 23, 2009. Porter is starting to demonstrate his
individuality this year. Last year, he imitated Cameron's play, but now he is
playing along with Cam and developing his own ideas on how he wants things to
be. Of course along with Porter's free will comes more sibling rivalry. The
two want the same toy instinctually. But aside from that, it is really nice to
have them playing together and entertaining each other like friends. They play
super heroes, hide and seek, and cars the best.
Porter is communicating every thought that comes to him and speaks
well with adults and his peers. Porter has enjoyed getting together with
friends his age and is developing his own friendships. He is great buds with
Simon and has two girlfriends, Ellie and Amelia. Porter has a nurturing spirit
when playing with younger kids as well, like Jack and Ethan.
Porter has been working on his shapes and colors and has started identifying
some numbers and the letter "o". He can sing the alphabet song and has
memorized other kids songs like "ring around the rosey".
Porter's favorite character continues to be Thomas the Tank Engine, and loves
to play with his train table. Porter also adores Elmo and Cookie Monster. Of
course since having an older brother, he has a lot of interest in Batman,
Spirderman, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones. Porter and I have been able to spend
more time together this year while Cam is in school two full days of preschool.
We have gone to storytimes, the park, had playdates, and trips to Wonderscope
just the two of us. This has been great confidence building for him. We have
made many trips to our zoo this spring, which is a lot of
fun for Porter and Cam.
Today Porer had his 3 year check up. He is 31 pounds and 37 inches. He has
been having a productive cough and the doctor noticed fluid behind his ears
today and recommended an allergy medicine. We are trying him on a 30-day trial
to see how this helps. He continues to use an inhaler when sick, but we feel
that his reliance is decreasing some, so we are optimistic he will grow out of
his asthma. Porter became completely potty trained a few months ago, and has
continued to be very successful. It is so nice to be out of diapers in our
household.
We look forward to our vacations this summer and hanging out at the pool
together. Porter is becoming very comfortable in the water and has started
putting his face in. He will attend a week long summer camp with his brother to
learn about music. In the fall, Porter will start preschool two days a week. I
am going to look into a class, such as gymnastics, for him to begin in the fall
to help develop coordination and strength.
We celebrated Porter's birthday by spending the afternoon at Swope Park. We had
a pinic and then took Porter on his first round of golf at a 3-hole junior
course. We had all three holes to ourselves, which was perfect to not be
rushed. I think Porter is a true lefty, not only does he write with his left,
he seems to have a preference toward a left-handed golf swing. We may have to
purchase his own left-handed set for him instead of handing down Cameron's
right-handed clubs. We'll see how it goes this summer, hopefully Matt and the
boys can spend some quality time together out on the course.
After a long nap following golf, Porter woke to find that I had purchased
cupcakes from a new cupcake shop called "Cupcake a la mode". Typical for him,
he ate the iceing and left the cake. Porter received a new tricycle for his
birthday from mom and dad. His legs were a little short for Cam's trike, so
this one is a little smaller. He can peddle, but has a little difficulty going
up hill. Porter has had a week of birthday celebration from his Build-A Bear
party to golf. With Porter receving gifts and being the focus this week,
Cameron is all the more ready for his turn in June.
Baby Jackey
2009-05-26 (Tuesday) 8:11 CDT
Porter recently started calling my friend, Lindi's baby, Jackey. He coos at
him and talks so sweet when they are playing together. Jack recently turned 18
months. I wanted to share these cute photos I took of Jack the other day at
the zoo. Lindi, Jack, Porter, Cam, our friend Lori and her three boys, and I
all ventured to the zoo on Friday. It was a beautiful day to spend with our
friends. Cam and Porter brought along Rosey and Thomas for their first trip to
the zoo.
Budding Friendships
2009-05-26 (Tuesday) 7:43 CDT
Porter adores his friend, Simon. They are like two peas in a pod right now.
Each week when Cameron and Simon's big sis, Ava, have gymnastics, Porter and
Simon spend the time playing and sharing gummy packs. They compare clothing,
pointing out what super hero they are wearing, and look out for one another at
the play gym. Now that the weather is nice, Dawn and I have taken the boys
down to the local farmer's market to hear the live music and dance. Their
favorite location is the stairs and hanging off the railing, which causes alarm
to the spectators, especially those who do not understand how mischevious
little boys are. Dawn's daughter, Ava, has been a friend and preschool
classmate of Cameron's. Cam and Ava will be going off to Kindergarten in the
fall while Porter and Simon will be starting preschool. On this
particular Wednesday, following gymnastics,
we had a picnic at the market place and the kids enjoyed snowcones.
My friend, Dawn, has a beautiful family and we cherish our friendships.
Porter's Build-a-Bear Party
2009-05-25 (Monday) 23:21 CDT
Porter celebrated had his 3rd Birthday party with his friends at Build-a-Bear.
Porter could hardly wait until this day arrived. It was so cute to watch his
expressions of excitment throughout the party. The party leader did a great
job keeping the kids focused for their age. Cameron knew right away that he
would name his bear Rosey, after the school bear that he got to bring home for
a visit. Porter couldn't think of a name, but rather wanted me to name his
bear, who I named Thomas, after Thomas the Tank Engine. Porter loved having
all his friends together and his grandma B. Following the party, Porter opened
his gifts from Grandma B. Below is a nice cozy bath towel that she made for
him. Porter loves the wooden house and t-ball set from Grandma and Grandpa B
as well. Porter had an exciting day, but had to wait another week until he
actually turns 3 on May 23rd.
Turkey Creek Festival 2009
2009-05-25 (Monday) 22:42 CDT
On May 16th Cameron, Porter, and I raced in our local Annual Turkey Creek
Festival. I came in first female overall, which is my first overall win
in a 5K
event. Porter and Cameron participated in the
Youth Sprint and received participation ribbons. Cameron was so excited about
racing. He was stretching and doing warm up sprints before the event start.
Following the races we enjoyed the festivities at the Turkey Creek Festival.
The boys had a lot of fun at the train ride, moonwalks, and paddle boats.
During our picnic lunch we heard a local kid's musician called Mr. Stinky Feet
play a few tunes.
Home Depot provided kits to make child-sized tool boxes, which was ideal for
Cameron and Porter. We had an enjoyable Saturday and look forward to
going
back next year.
Mother's Day
2009-05-25 (Monday) 17:36 CDT
I was pampered this Mother's Day weekend by my two wonderful boys and adoring
husband. Prior to the weekend, I treated myself to a pedicure at a local spa
with other wonderful mothers. Matt surprised me with two dozen white roses
Saturday evening. Then, next day being Mother's Day, Matt let me sleep in
while he took care of the boys. When I finally managed to get out of bed, I
was thrilled to see that I had a brand new Kuereg coffee maker. Cameron and
Porter picked out wonderful candy for me from World Market. But the cutest
thing they did was Matt wrote down things that each boy would do to help me out
on any given day. One of Cam's said "he would do what I ask the first time"
and Porter's said "I will give you a hug and a kiss". I need to pull those out
and remind them of what they promised on Mother's Day:) After I was showered
with gifts of love, we all went to church and then went out to Tomfooleries for
their Sunday Mother's Day brunch. Great food, but way too much of it, I
probably ate two days worth of food in one setting. So, next year Matt will
cook for me at home, since it is much healthier and less stressful with the
boys. I want to thank Matt, Cameron, and Porter, who make it possible for me
to call myself a Mother and share this holiday with so many other fortunate
women.
