Cam & Port Spring 2010
2010-03-28 (Sunday) 20:17 CDT
Soon to be 6 and 4, Cameron and Porter continue to inspire me daily. I embrace
their enthusiam, their desire to learn, and their boundless energy. As I
instill positive values in them, and reinforce their self-worth, they
undoubtedly provide me with self-worth, and wisdom that is twofold. I owe them
so much, and my debt to them will never be fully paid. I am grateful every day
for the time I am granted to spend with my beautiful boys.
Science City at Union Station
2010-03-15 (Monday) 14:31 CDT
Union Station, here in Kansas City, offers a ton a attractions for young kids.
Now that Porter is almost 4, we decided to get a family membership for the year
to discover all there is to explore here. The boys really like running around,
so Science City was our first stop. We spent about 3 hours there, and still
have not seen everything. For my dad, I dressed the boys in their Central
Methodist University tee shirts, where my dad is currently teaching some
courses. The shirts read growing up to be a an Eagle, but honestly, I want
them grow up to be Tigers, but we wore them for Grandpa. Anyway, we really
enjoyed the dinosaur fossil dig, which is a great place for them to dig, but
not get dirty:)
We also enjoyed the put-put golf area, the helicopter, and the weather station.
There is a crime scene lab area and a mystery hotel that they want to visit
over and over again. Mystery attractions are perfect for Cameron who is now a
"Nate the Great" fan after seeing a play based on the books. I read him one of
the mysteries, and I am certain he will be reading them himself before long. I
personally enjoyed the quiet time we spent building with the flat boards. It
was fun to watch them imagine how to build a house or a tall building. We
enjoyed a planetarium show, called "Orion", on a second visit, and look forward
to another light show. Union Station also has a historical KC rail museum,
which we will visit on our next trip downtown. We also look forward to viewing
the Extreme Screen show about Dinosaurs that comes out in April. I am excited
that the boys are growing up and can now take more advantage of what Kansas
City has to offer.
